Azul, a leading ocean justice organization working with Latino communities, commissioned BSP Research to conduct the 2026 National Azul Poll: Latinos and the Ocean. The poll surveyed 2,100 Latino voters across the United States about climate action, environmental protections, ocean conservation, and public policy.
The findings are clear: Latino voters across the political spectrum recognize the environmental challenges before us, support concrete government action, and are prepared to make climate and ocean protection a political priority.
Marcela Gutiérrez-Graudiņš, Azul’s Founder and Executive Director, shared the following statement on the poll’s release:
“Across party lines, Latino voters agree they want leaders who will protect our ocean. Our poll makes that clear. Our communities are facing real threats from pollution and offshore drilling, and we can’t afford to wait. Latino voters are paying attention, and they want action. These results show the power of our communities to shape ocean policy and protect our coasts, our health, and our ocean for generations to come.”
When it comes to threats challenging our climate and ocean, Latino voters see a serious problem.
• 80% say a candidate who supports stronger policies to protect the coastline and ocean would make them more likely to vote for that candidate
• 82% agree that climate change is a serious problem that will affect people’s lives
Latino voters’ support for constraining fossil fuel development remains strong.
• 90% say clean beaches and a clean ocean are essential to both our economy and our quality of life
• 76% support banning offshore drilling and replacing it with renewable fuels such as solar and wind
Republican Latino voters are redefining an outdated narrative.
• 88% of Republican Latino voters say the environment and environmental issues like pollution and global warming are personally important to them
