#LatinosMarinos at California Ocean Day 2023!

#LatinosMarinos at California Ocean Day 2023!

April 11 was California Ocean Day, and WOW was it an exciting and powerful day!

Together with Mujeres de la Tierra, COARE, Power In Nature, CALPIRG, COAST, Environment California, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Sierra Club California, Surfrider Foundation, and more amazing partners, we brought over 100 people to Sacramento to urge elected officials to support protecting 30% of our planet’s natural resources by 2030 (also known as #30×30 or #El30ParaEl2023).

The power, passion, and love Latinx communities feel for our ocean was deeply felt throughout the day and sent a clear message that we care about the environment *AND* have solutions that can help keep it healthier and stronger!

Some highlights from our #LatinosMarinos delegation include:

1️⃣ Abuelas, tías, and people as young as 7 years old worked together to visit over 20 offices of elected officials
2️⃣ More than 75 people taking part in digital action urging their elected officials to support ambitious protections for 30×30
3️⃣Estrella Marina Award ceremony where we honored Senator Lena Gonzalez and Moisés Moreno-Rivera, Deputy Secretary for Environmental Justice, Tribal Affairs & Border Relations
4️⃣Being recognized by our community and peers for the important work Azul has been doing for the past 12 years as one of the only Latinx ocean conservation organizations
