Washington, D.C. – Azul is thrilled to announce the appointment of Carlos Ochoa as National Policy Associate, a newly created role that has been established to bolster Azul’s federal level ocean conservation efforts as a leading conservation organization working with Latinos to protect our coasts and oceans.
Working directly with Founder and Executive Director Marce Gutiérrez-Graudiņš, Carlos will lead Azul’s federal ocean conservation efforts, finding policy solutions, representing Azul in the media and in coalitions at the federal level. He will also work with a growing team of communications professionals and organizers on engaging public support for ocean conservation, particularly in the Latino community.
“Coming from a transportation policy background, I have been interested in the intersection between equity and access to public resources. After working as an organizer in communities of color for the Arizona Democratic Party’s coordinated campaign, I learned how valuable it is to engage marginalized people and get them focused on what is happening in Washington, D.C. Azul is the perfect place to elevate ocean and coastal conservation efforts in D.C., while also emphasizing the need to create equitable access to people of color,” said Ochoa.
Prior to joining Azul, Ochoa worked as an Organizer for the Arizona Democratic Party’s coordinated campaign in the recent election, a Government Affairs Associate at Cardinal Infrastructure, and in business development for POLITICO.
“Carlos’ policy background brings to Azul the ideal mix of skills and experience to our effort to advocate for a national 30X30 initiative to conserve 30 percent of our land and water by the year 2030,” said Gutiérrez-Graudiņš, Founder and Executive Director of Azul. “We’re excited to have him join our team in protecting our blue planet.”
